This fall, we welcome the following new lab members from all over the world.

  • Amelia Dahlen is a fourth-year neuroscience student from University of Aberdeen, Scotland. She is interested in the neuropharmacology of addiction and mental illness, as well as processes of neurodegeneration.

  • Jie Gong is a visiting scholar and associate professor from Nantong University China. He is interested in neuronal development.

  • Longping Peng is a second-year graduate student from Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She is interested in the in vivo effects and mechanisms of traditional Chinese medicine extracts.

  • Stacy Steinberg is a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellow. She is interested in the molecular mechanisms and neurobiology of schizophrenia.

  • Sacha Salphati is a third-year undergraduate student from Imperial College London. He is interested in GPCR drug molecules and the endocannabinoid system.

  • Liqiang Wei is a fourth-year undergraduate student from Fudan University. He is interested in genes, social behavior, and neuropsychiatric disorders.

  • Déja Santana is our 2018 NIDA intern. She is a sophomore majoring in neuroscience at Drew University in Madison, NJ. Her research interests include behavior, addiction, and the effects of drugs on the developing brain. In her free time she enjoys traveling, drawing, hiking, and writing.

  • Mei Blundell is a sophomore biology major at UCLA. She is pursuing a career in research in fields such as neuroscience, ecosystem dynamics, or developmental biology. In her free time, she enjoys practicing ballet and playing the Chinese hammered dulcimer.

Congrats to Jeffrey (Gha-Hyun) Kim, Harrison Liu, and Han Mo for receiving the Mary Anne Koda-Kimble Seed Award for Innovation this past month for their project “Development of an in-vivo screening system for neuroprotective drug discovery using NTR-MTZ Zebrafish model.” This research will involve screening potential drugs that may combat neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease.
