Discover. Innovate. Transform patient care.
The UCSF PharmD-PhD Sequential Degree Program is designed for aspiring pharmacist-scientists who want to shape the future of health care through clinical expertise and groundbreaking research.
You must be a current PharmD student at UCSF to be eligible for the Sequential Degree Program.
Students begin in UCSF's PharmD program, where they develop a strong foundation in patient care while exploring research through faculty mentorship, laboratory experiences, graduate-level coursework, and an Extended Discovery Project. These experiences provide an early immersion into scientific investigation and create a seamless transition into PhD training.
After completing the PharmD program, students begin the PhD program in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmacogenomics.
The sequential degree pathway is designed to help students pursue both degrees more efficiently than completing them separately, while preserving the depth and rigor of each program. Graduates leave with the unique combination of clinical insight and research expertise needed to identify unmet health care needs, drive scientific discovery, and accelerate the translation of research into real-world therapies.
