CPR Certification Requirement

This requirement applies to all PharmD students.

Requirement

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills (CPR) are considered a core competency for all health professionals. All students enrolled in the UCSF School of Pharmacy are required to provide evidence of cardiopulmonary resuscitation/basic life support (CPR/BLS) certification in order to participate in IPPEs and APPEs.

Entering pharmacy students must provide evidence of CPR certification upon entry by the established deadline. . This certification must be maintained through completion of the PharmD program.

CPR certification is renewed every two years. Students who fail to meet this requirement may not be allowed to participate in IPPEs or APPEs.

Students must independently enroll in a CPR certification course that meets the following requirements:

  1. The course must be either:
    1. American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers
      or
    2. American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Providers
  2. A portion of the certification/re-certification may be completed through an online course. However, the certification must include a final skills session taken with a certified instructor.

A copy of the current certification card which shows the issue and expiration date must be maintained in E*Value.
