This requirement applies to all PharmD students.

Requirement

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation/basic life support skills (CPR) are considered a core competency for all health professionals. All students enrolled in the UCSF School of Pharmacy are required to provide evidence of cardiopulmonary resuscitation/basic life support (CPR/BLS) certification in order to participate in IPPEs and APPEs.

Entering pharmacy students must provide evidence of BLS certification upon entry by the established deadline. This certification must be maintained through completion of the PharmD program.

BLS certification is renewed every two years. Students who fail to meet this requirement may not be allowed to participate in IPPEs or APPEs.

Students must independently enroll in a BLS certification course that meets the following requirements:

  1. The course must be from the American Heart Association and be Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers
  2. A portion of the certification/re-certification may be completed through an online course. However, the certification must include a final skills session taken with a certified instructor.
